We are thrilled to announce that our very own Jack Cotter has been honored with the prestigious Engineers Ireland Innovative Student Engineer of the Year Award for 2019. This recognition is sponsored by Siemens and celebrates its 21st anniversary of championing innovation among engineering students across Ireland's third-level institutions.
Jack's groundbreaking invention, the Cotter Crate, a state-of-the-art lamb handling system, stood out among the entries. The Cotter Crate is designed to facilitate the quick, safe, and accurate administration of vaccines, doses, and drenches to lambs from 3 weeks of age.
The competition saw five student finalists present their projects across a range of sectors including medical, housing, and agriculture to a distinguished panel of judges at Dogpatch Labs in Dublin. It's an honour for Jack and our team that the Cotter Crate was recognised for its potential.
In addition to receiving the title of Innovative Student Engineer of the Year, Jack was awarded a €2,000 prize fund.
Caroline Spillane, Director General of Engineers Ireland, commended the finalists for their inventive solutions to industry challenges and everyday societal needs. Gary O’Callaghan, Chief Executive of Siemens Ltd., also praised the competition for providing a unique platform for Ireland’s most innovative engineering students, recognising the Cotter Crate for its unique approach to addressing agricultural challenges in Ireland.
We are inspired by the recognition and excited about the future possibilities it opens up for the Cotter Crate's commercialisation. We want to thank Engineers Ireland, Siemens, and the broader engineering community for their support and encouragement.
Stay tuned for more updates as we strive to bring our innovative solutions to farmers around the globe in the coming years!
