TAMS Grants - Our Eligible Products

Key info on the Targeted Agriculture Modernisation Schemes (TAMS 3):

  • operates on a rolling tranche basis, meaning it is always open.
  • Cutoff dates are in place for different rounds throughout the year.
  • All our equipment is grant aided at the higher 60% rate for ALL farmers (organic/conventional/male/female etc) under the Farm Safety Capital Investment Scheme of TAMS 3. 
  • The grant amount is 60% of either the Department's specified reference cost for an item, or the invoiced amount (whichever is lower).
  • No supporting documentation is required to make an application for any of our products
  • A TAMS application can be easily completed in 5-7 mins

The Cotter Crate Sheep + Lamb Handler is eligible under the following headings on TAMS:

Option 1: Cotter Crate Standard Unit with 3-way drafting

This is the minimum specification that will be grant aided under TAMS. A Cotter Crate without 3-way drafting will not be grant aided. Under proposed investments, select mobile sheep handling equipment and pick the following sub-investment:

1. Portable sheep handling race with wheels (incl footbath)
Reference cost: €3,847.75
Amount you should receive: 
€3,847.75 x 60% = €2,308


Option 2: Cotter Crate Standard Unit with 3-way drafting + weigh bars

If you are considering this option, you should apply for the following two sub-investments under mobile sheep handling equipment:

1. Portable sheep handling race with wheels (incl footbath)
Reference cost: €3,847.75

2. Sheep weighing scales
Reference cost €826.89 reference cost x 60% = €496

Amount you should receive: (€3,847.75 + €826.89) * 0.6 = €2,805

Option 3: Cotter Crate Standard Unit with 3-way drafting + weigh bars + EID reader

If you are looking to buy an EID tag reader with your Cotter Crate (We can supply TruTest/Agrident models), you should apply for items 1 and 2 under mobile sheep handling equipment, and you should also apply for item 3 under the electronic tag readers heading:

1. Portable sheep handling race with wheels (incl footbath)
Reference cost €3,847.75

2. Sheep weighing scales
Reference cost: €826.89

3. EID tag reader and software
Reference cost: €710

Amount you should receive: (€3,847.75 + €826.89 + €710) * 0.6 = €3,230

 

Option 4: Cotter Crate Standard Unit with 3-way drafting + weigh bars + EID reader + SmartWorm software


If you are looking at this option, you should apply for items 1 and 2 under mobile sheep handling equipment, and you should also apply for item 3 under the electronic tag readers heading:

1. Portable sheep handling race with wheels (incl footbath)
Reference cost: €3,847.75

2. Sheep weighing scales
Reference cost: €826.89

3. PDA EID reader and management software package
Reference cost: €1,820

Amount you should receive: (€3,847.75 + €826.89 + €1,820) * 0.6 = €3,896

 

Criteria for each item

S136A specification is the relevant specification for sheep handling equipment (click here for document).

NOTE: The Cotter Crate has a special exemption from the Department of Agriculture that makes it eligible under the portable sheep handling race with wheels (incl footbath) and sheep weighing scales headings. See below the official letter from the Department:

 


- Portable sheep handling race with wheels (incl footbath)
"A Portable Sheep Handling Race with wheels, either with or without a footbath, will consist of a handling race that is permanently fixed together and mounted on wheels that may be detachable. The handling race may have a guillotine gate at the rear and drafting gate at the front, non return gates and a footbath along the length of the race which can be covered over when not in use. The handling race is the section between the front gate and rear gate and may include two pen sections to act as a funnel to direct the sheep into the race. The race shall be a minimum of 2.4m long, when in operation. The unit must be fitted with lights and relevant plating for road transport." COTTER CRATE MEETS THIS SPEC AS PER ABOVE LETTER

- Sheep weighing scales
"Weighing scales may be either manual or digital. They shall be designed to hold the sheep on the weighing platform without the need for additional restraint.The weighing facilities may be included along with the race, rollover crate or may be separate. A weighing scales shall include either a manual or digital display. COTTER CRATE MEETS THIS SPEC AS PER ABOVE LETTER


- EID tag reader and software
This is an electronic system that reads the tag numbers of the sheep, and has software to enable the numbers to be transferred to a computer. These systems may also be able to record some additional information. Any of the EID readers sold on our website meet this specification.


- PDA EID reader and management software package
This is an electronic system that reads the tag numbers of the sheep and additional information (such as weight, sex, no. of lambs, veterinary treatments, management
information, etc) can be recorded on the system “in the field”. The PDA EID tag reader will include a full keyboard (all letters shown at the same time on separate keys, either on screen or as a physical keyboard) on the reader. It will include a full management package for recording all information about the sheep which can be uploaded to a computer or viewed on the PDA itself. The Agrident AWR300 purchases with a lifetime subscription of SmartWorm meets this specification.
